PDF to a set size

Compress a PDF to a specific file size

Pick the maximum size the portal asks for (government site, job application, university…) and the tool automatically adjusts quality and resolution until it fits under that limit. Heads up: pages are redrawn as images, so the text stops being selectable — if the original already weighs less than the limit, there's no need to compress it.

Frequently asked questions

Does it always manage to get under the limit?

Almost always, but with very long PDFs it may not be possible without making them unreadable. In that case it tells you, and the best move is to split the file.

Is the text still selectable?

No: to shrink the file that much, pages are redrawn as images. If you need to keep the text, use the regular compress PDF tool at a high quality.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens in your browser; your file never leaves your device. See the privacy page for details.

Is it free?

Yes, this tool is free and doesn't require sign-up or an account.
